NCAA Women's Salute 2012 - Mile High Magic!

On April 1, 2012 the NCAA Final Four Women’s Salute was held, paying tribute to the coaches and student-athletes who participated in the Final Four basketball tournament.  This year’s theme was Mile High Magic and was held in Denver, CO.

The show included local talent including Break EFX. Break EFX has performed on “America’s Best Dance Crew” and “America’s Got Talent”. Another notable performer was the “Silhouettes”. They won second place on “America’s Got Talent”.   If that weren’t entertainment enough, aerialists from Frequent Flyers, magicians, stilt walkers, a live hawk were part of the opening act, and ESPN’s sports anchor Sage Steele, emerged from a magician’s box to host the show.

Markey's Rental & Staging helped with the overall magic of the show.  There were a lot of moving elements, including IMAG screens, and (4) 9 x 16 vertical screens that were flown out individually.  There were 7 screens total and there were video elements that needed to be shown at different times, on different screens.  It was also a very “effect-driven” show.  Markey's wanted to tie into the Mile High theme and the scenery outdoors, so our staging experts created a fabric mountain that was 70’ long and 18’ tall at its tallest peak. Since the mountain was fabric, we were able to make it rise from the ground during the show, and once in place, we used it as a projection surface.  Other effects included low smoke generators, snow and old fashioned strobes to round out the magic.
