Held in Indianapolis since 2011, the Big Ten Football Championship Game brings 70,000 fans to the city each year. Big Ten hosts several fan experiences including the Big Ten Fan Fest at the Indiana Convention Center. Markey’s has had an integral part in the experience from the very beginning.
Fan Fest Entrance
For the past 3 years, the entrance to the Fan Fest has been flanked by two 15 ft x 45 ft screens. Each of the immersive screens plays the highlight reels of the two finalist that are about to compete for the Championship. This year, Markey’s added a BIG 3D projection mapped piece to the entrance. This new feature was a hit and is sure to be a permanent attraction at the Big Ten Fan Fests in the future!
Here is the technical scoop on the projection mapping: A standard stage covered in PVC held the foam letters that measured 4 ft tall x 10.5 ft wide with a depth of 1 ft. The letters were drawn in CAD and then exported to Cinema 4D to convert them into a 3D object. UV mapping was used to create the pieces that input into our Watchout system and controls the media going to the four Barco HDX 20k projectors used on this project. Media files such as photos, videos and graphics were then processed in Watchout and projected onto the 3D letters. The side screens were blended and ran by a Hippotizer Boreal media server using another four Barco HDX 20k projectors.
Dr. Pepper Field
The Dr. Pepper Field is the site of youth football clinics, pep rallies and celebrity appearances. Markey's installed a JBL Vertec sound system, over 60 LED moving lights for the field and two 11.3' x 20' screens for HD video projection of graphics and cable TV feed of football games to keep all the fans up-to-date on the many games going on around the country.
Call the Play
This area allows fans to have a first-hand experience posing as a game analyst, sitting at a custom designed BigTen anchor desk. A new feature this year allowed fans the ability to cue video playback and annotate plays on the video screen by drawing on the iPad with their finger. Microphones, a sound system and video monitors rounded out the Call the Play experience.
Pre-Game Hospitality Suite
For the VIP Hospitality pregame party , Markey's turned the ballroom into a sports bar –highlighting College Football Conference Championships and other Big Ten Sports. The lighting included 50 Chauvet Slimpars, 24 MAC 101’s, 24 CycLights and 35 stagebars all controlled by the Hedghog 4x console to add life and dimension to the room. Several different looks and colors were used to represent all the teams in the Big Ten. A total of 12 monitors varying between 65” and 75” where used around the room to broadcast various Conference Championships as well other sporting events, including the Ohio State vs. Wisconsin Big Ten Championship Game.
New this year, Markey’s provided a 4-sided LED video wall over the bar service area located in the center of the room. The vibrant video screens served as the main attraction and consisted of four individual 9.84 ft x 4.92 ft LED video walls all with independent feeds.
