Making History Come Alive in Des Moines

Friday December 14th, 2012, marked the date of  Iowa's State Historical Building 25th Anniversary Gala, and Markey's Rental & Staging in Des Moines used creative technology to make it a standout event.

The challenge was to use the historical photographs given by the State Historical Society in a way that wasn't the usual, static display. Markey's rose to the occasion with the latest in gear and technical skill.  The setup included three 6' x 8' screens onto which the Markey's professionals used WATCHOUT software technology and blended projection to show the photos, which were given movement and excitement by being shown individually, one per screen, or sometimes with one photo across all three screens, or even being  moved and scaled across all three screens.  This gave the 700 attendees a visually interesting show pre-event.  During the actual program, the technicians projected custom images onto the screens, so that the screens were now serving as stage backdrop.

The guests for the evening included Des Moines civic and corporate dignitaries, with remarks by Honorary Chairs Governor Terry Branstad and Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds. There were numerous musical groups featured at this event,  most notably a special performance by internationally-acclaimed operatic bass baritone Simon Estes.
