year marks the 5th
consecutive year Markey’s has fully supported the annual ICAN Women’s
Leadership Conference at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska. ICAN sold out with 2,550 attendees
representing 313 companies, 21 states and 3 countries. The event has changed and grown since 2012,
our first year as ICAN’s audiovisual partner, with the General Session moving
from the 31,000-square-foot Peter Kiewit Ballroom to the 98,000-square-foot
Hall C to accommodate the growth.
The General Session showcases an oversized 15’x73’ rear-projected
center screen with six blended and double-stacked Barco 20K-lumen projectors. The
center screen creates a dramatic backdrop for the stage and features custom
graphics, animated transitions and video playback. Flanking both sides of the center screen are
15’x26.75’ screens which are primarily used for Image Magnification (IMAG) and
Four HD cameras capture all of the activity on stage as well as in
the audience; one of the cameras is mounted in the downstage lighting truss,
controlled via a backstage remote.
Cameras, videos, graphics and social media feeds are all controlled and
switched with a Barco FSN-150, with signal routing and blending performed using
our Barco Encore Presentation Switcher.
Markey’s relies on a JBL VerTec Line Array system, with thirty-two
cabinets and eight subwoofers, to supply sufficient audio for such a large
venue and audience. Shure ULX-D wireless
microphones and a Midas M32 digital audio console complete the audio system
loud enough to make an impact for 2,400 attendees.
Our lighting design begins with a stage wash of eight ARRI 2K
fixtures with an array of ARRI 1Ks supplying the backlight. No lighting design is complete without
intelligent lighting, so we have added eight Elation Platinum Beam 5R Extreme
fixtures, the newest in the Markey’s inventory.
There are also eight Martin Mac 101s and sixteen Chauvet LED Cyc Lights
to supplement the look. All lighting is controlled with a Jands Vista T2
In addition to the General Session, Markey’s also supports all of
ICAN’s breakout sessions held in various rooms on the upper floor of the
CenturyLink Center. This year, we are
again supporting those sessions with screens, projectors and full PA systems
for each breakout room.
Two semis were used to transport the equipment from our warehouse
in Indianapolis to Omaha, with supplemental equipment driven to us from our Des
Moines office. A crew of over 20 technicians converged to set everything in a
single day, with support coming from the IATSE Local 42 as well as from our Des
Moines office to supplement the seven technicians who traveled to Omaha from
various cities around the country.
It truly is a team effort to put on an event of this magnitude and
Markey’s taps into their many resources to help pull it off - making each
year’s conference even bigger and better than the previous.
