the fall and winter of 2016, Markey’s had the pleasure of assisting with the
State of Indiana’s Bicentennial Celebration.
Three distinct events allowed residents, tourists and state government staff
an opportunity to celebrate Indiana’s founding 200 years ago. Markey’s was on-hand for all three celebrations;
providing staging, lighting, video and audio support.
were a huge success but did pose some challenges. During an event in October, part
of the celebration was the unveiling of the newly renovated plaza at the
Capitol Building. The renovated plaza
included a two tier section in front of the stairs on the west side. This created a very tight 25 foot main
platform in front of the stairs. Using a
SL100 mobile stage, we were able to drive down the side walk into the new area. Once the stage was in place there was only 2.5
feet to spare in the front and back. A
tight fit to say the least but a successful drop! The video
consisted of two video walls, 5 camera’s and one mobile control center in the
legislature parking lot about 150’ away.
Audio was hung from the stage with JBL Line Array cabinets and delay
cabinets down the side walk all the way to Washington St. and Senate. As this was a daytime event, lighting was a
simple stage wash in case of an overcast day.
All of this, allowed us to provide excellent video & sound coverage
for the various dignitaries and musical acts to take the stage that day!

we were at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in the Indiana Farmers Coliseum for
two events. The most unique challenge to
these two events was navigating the security needs for the Vice-President Elect
and Governor of Indiana Mike Pence. We
also worked closely with IPBS out of Bloomington who was live webcasting the
evening event and recording the event for a tape delayed rebroadcast on Sunday.
A two day
setup, allowed us to fly over 360 feet of truss in the coliseum to support an
extensive lighting rig and flown screens.
With everything from Quantum Profiles to MAC Vipers our lighting
designer had the venue rocking. Audio
was again supported with flown JBL line array cabinets. With multiple music acts and performers
constantly changing over on the stage, our audio engineer and technicians had
their work cut out for them. Due to
their preparation and professionalism they flawlessly executed these many
challenges. Video consisted of 20k Barco
projectors on 15’ X 27’ Stumpfl screens flanking the stage. There were also multiple feeds to down stage
monitors and to the green room. We provided
multiple manned cameras with various long throw lenses. Markey’s also had one of our HD remote
controlled cameras flown in the rig with full control by our technical
director. This was all controlled in the
upper level by a Barco FSN 150 HD switcher and recorded on AJA drives and our Atomos
Shogun record decks.

independent PA and uplighting throughout the venue’s halls and lobby, so the
guests would not miss a minute of the event or and to heighten the celebration experience. Working closely with the event planning team
at Maribeth Smith and Associates, Markey’s was also able to take the standard
security tent and provide a festive atmosphere.
We at Markey’s
could not be more proud to have been there assisting with these momentous
occasions; celebrating our Indiana’s birthday.
We look forward to many more successful years of partnership with the
State of Indiana and our state’s 300th birthday!
