Markey's and the London Symphony

Markey's Helps to Enhance the London Symphony Orchestra Event in Daytona Beach, Florida with HD Video.

Every two years for roughly the last 4 decades the Daytona Beach International Music Festival takes place in the communities surrounding Daytona Beach. Over 50,000 people, 100 performances and 30 venues offer a diverse collection of artists from jazz to classical and folk to contemporary music. The 2009 Festival celebrates more than 40 years as the Official American Festival Residency of the London Symphony Orchestra. Festival planners knew they needed to make this particular event extra special to compliment the appearance of the London Symphony Orchestra that would headline the Festival this year at the Ocean Center.

Markey's Rental & Staging's involvement began with our affiliation with the newly renovated Daytona Beach Ocean Center and with our reputation as a full service and competent local supplier of audiovisual rental and staging services in the Central Florida market. Markey's incorporated pre-produced HD video playback clips, HD projection and an SDI camera system to present on three very large screens the visual accompaniment to the phenomenal music of the Symphony. DME Studios, a local production studio and edit house, put together high definition visual clips that would play on screens during each orchestral piece. Markey's projected and then blended those images with live camera shots during the performance.   The theme of the performance and the pieces chosen was Speed, in all its forms. The visuals helped to tell the story of speed not just in racing but in film, flight, nature, fantasy and human achievement.

The event was very well attended by the Festival visitors, the local community arts aficionados and anyone who understood the level at which the LSO performs musically. "It was really something to hear the scores from so many classic films that the LSO had performed for the films," says an attendee. "Superman, Olympic Fanfare, Star Wars all performed to perfection. Musically they were amazing. The visuals really added to the theme of the evening."

Markey's equipment included (4) SDI cameras, (1) camera jib crane, (2) 12' x 21' wide screens, (1) 22' x 40' widescreen, (4) Christie DLP 8K HD projectors, (2) Christie DLP 12K HD projectors, (1) Barco/Folsom Encore system, (2) Grass Valley Turbo IDDRs and an HD/SDI signal distribution system that was backed up by a DVI/fiber signal distribution system. The event was a huge success and the LSO was amazing. For more photographs click link to our portfolio. For more information on the Daytona Beach International Festival, click DBIF.
